The kids will be out of school for their two week winter break soon! I’m sure part of your time will be spent celebrating the holidays and cuddling up at home but inevitably there will come a point when everyone gets cabin fever. When that happens, you may need a quick reference, so here are ten things to do in the Sacramento area over winter break:

  1. Play outdoors at Fairytale Town and visit the animals at the Sacramento Zoo for FREE on Christmas Eve.
  2. Go ice skating at the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink, Folsom Ice Rink, Skatetown or Iceland.
  3. Climb on the indoor play structures at Wacky Tacky or Climbaroo.
  4. Be artistic at ArtBEAST or use your imagination at Busy Kidz.
  5. Visit a Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, or El Dorado County library for a storytime or special activity.
  6. Explore the Aerospace Museum of CaliforniaCalifornia Automobile MuseumCalifornia State Railroad MuseumCrocker Art MuseumPowerhouse Science Center, or Sacramento Children’s Museum.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
