Win Tickets to Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Celebration

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.” And there was no one quite like Dr. Seuss!

Fairytale Town will mark the beloved author and illustrator’s birthday with a read-aloud and Seuss-themed hands-on activities on Saturday, March 2 from 11 am to 3 pm, at their annual Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Celebration!

This happens to be one of our favorite events of the year! This photo is from last year’s Dr. Seuss celebration at Fairytale Town. My kids had a ball making their own striped hats!

“Green Eggs and Ham,” “Fox in Sox,” “Hop on Pop” and more of Dr. Seuss’ celebrated books will be read-aloud from the Mother Goose Stage throughout the program. Featured readers include Sacramento’s vice mayor Angelique Ashby; Sacramento city council members Darrell Fong, Kevin McCarty and Jay Schenirer; Mix 96’s Jennifer Wood; and News 10’s Mellisa Paul.

There will also be a variety of Seuss-inspired hands-on activities for children to create and take home as souvenirs. Activities include making “Cat in the Hat” hats, creating rhyming flip charts and planting “truffula” trees.

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is the author and illustrator of 44 books for children, including “The Cat in the Hat,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” His birthday is also celebrated as Read Across America Day, organized by the National Education Association to promote reading.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
