Exploring WPA Rock Garden

So we all know that William Land Park is Sacramento’s hot spot for families with the Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town, Funderland, a duck pond, playground, play pool, and picnic areas galore. But…did you know that there is a HIDDEN TREASURE as well? The WPA Rock Garden sits undiscovered by most visitors.

Right next to the Fairytale Town parking lot and on the way to the duck pond, is this unique garden that is ideal for running around, playing hide and seek, and discovering nature.

Although it is relatively small, you can’t see the entire garden from any one spot…and so you don’t always know what is around the corner!

The winding and sloping paths are sprinkled with decomposed granite, small steps and even rock “benches”.  Many different and unusual types of plants and flowers live in this garden and my kids just love to check them out!  What they always beg to have time for, though, is a game of hide and seek!

Check it out on it’s own or combine it with one of your other favorite William Land Park attractions. If you were to ask my kids, they would tell you this is one of their FAVORITE SPOTS in all of Sacramento!
