Shadow Glen Riding Stables is pleased to offer scenic one-hour and two-hour western trail rides along the American River at Lake Natoma. All horseback rides are fully guided by certified wranglers knowledgeable of the area you’ll be riding through. Some of the wildlife you may encounter include Mule Deer, North American Coyote, Black-Tail Jackrabbit, Western Gray, and Douglas Squirrel, Turkey Vultures, and Red-tailed Hawk.
OUR EXPERIENCE:
When we arrived, we were all immediately giddy because as soon as we got out of the car, there were horses behind the fence for us to see up close. We opted for Shadow Glen’s one-hour western trail ride and after checking in, a young girl, who I imagine must be a part of the family business, demonstrated how to ride a horse. She was terrific! Each of us was then taken by an instructor to a horse and taught how to mount it, then guided to where our group would start the trail ride. Every one of the staff we came in contact with was very friendly and helpful! The scenery was gorgeous and varied. We all couldn’t stop talking about how fun it was on the way home and how we wanted to do it again!
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
- Make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance
- Wear long pants and sneakers or boots
- If you go in the winter like we did, layer up. Maybe even bring some gloves. Those in our group that didn’t wear jackets were very cold on the ride.
