RSP’s Storybook Theatre Presents Cinderella

Last Saturday afternoon, we went to see Runaway Stage Productions’ Storybook Theatre show, Cinderella!

In their usual creative fashion, Runaway Stage Productions put a humorous twist on the classic story. The forgetful Prime Minister, wacky stepmother and silly stepsisters had us cracking up! My kids and I were talking afterwards about how the unexpected storyline means surprises, which is so fun! Between the quirky characters and glamorous Cinderella, the kids were entranced.

We love that RSP’s Storybook Theatre shows include the audience. During Cinderella, the actors would ask the audience to answer questions, shout things out, and even come up on stage. The kids enjoy the chance to participate and it makes for a comfortable atmosphere. Several lucky kids were chosen to join in the fun of dancing at the ball or try on the glass slipper.

If you want to introduce your kids to theatre and begin an appreciation for the arts as well as teach them them how to sit still…this is the way to do it! You do not have to worry about your child asking you questions during the show or needing to get up to use the bathroom. It’s an audience full of families who understand. The show’s run time is an hour and 10 minutes and lively enough to hold their attention from beginning to end!

Try to catch one of their last two performances this Saturday afternoon!

It was like Hollywood outside after the show as the kids swarmed around the cast to get autographs! This was the first time my boys were brave enough to collect their own autographs and even have their picture taken with one of the stepsisters. Runaway Stage Productions does such a good job of making their shows an “experience”! We had a fabulous afternoon and can’t wait to go back for the next show!

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
