A magical night for the whole family!

Fairytale Town will celebrate Shakespeare’s classic fairy play at the park’s annual ice cream social event: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Crystal Ice Cream Fantasy on Saturday, June 29, from 6 to 10 pm.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Crystal Ice Cream Fantasy brings the magical world of Shakespeare’s famous play to life,” said Kathy Fleming, executive director of Fairytale Town. “It will be a fun and educational evening that adults and children will enjoy.”

The enchanting evening features nonstop entertainment for kids and adults, including live music, theatrical performances, fanciful arts and crafts activities, and all the Crystal Ice Cream you can eat!

Celtic-rock band 1916 will perform throughout the evening. With influences and sounds comparable to Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys, 1916 is steadily carving their niche on the American music scene. Touring predominately in California, Nevada and Washington, they play their original tunes, the traditional songs of Ireland and Scotland and rock and roll classics with a unique twist.

Shakespeare Lite, the education and outreach arm of the Sacramento Shakespeare Festival, will perform the classic scene of “Pyramus and Thisbe” from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in the Children’s Theater.

Multiple arts and crafts activities will be stationed throughout the park, and vendors will be on hand to offer their traditional wares in the Olde Worlde Marketplace. Pirates of Sacramento will offer rollicking fun for all ages at their Pirate Skool, and fairies, ents, satyrs, elves and more from Kaotic Mythicals will engage guests with games, crafts and exhibits.

My family attended A Midsummer Night’s Dream last year and had so much fun that we can’t wait to go again! With all the decorations, costumes and music as the sun was going down…it really was magical! We had a ball getting different flavors of ice cream from stations throughout the park and enjoying it as we strolled around checking out the many activities.

Hope to see you there this year!

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
