Change, the Musical – Written, Directed, and Produced by McClatchy High School Students

Change is a coming-of-age story about finding oneself in the face of challenges, societal standards, and social media. It’s about a group of students that navigate their way through the ups and downs of high school and learn the importance of accepting themselves and others. It is a production WRITTEN, DIRECTED, PRODUCED, and CAST entirely by teens. “Change, the Musical” is being presented November 8th through 16th at the brand new McClatchy High School Black Box Theater.

Lindsay Hatch (Writer/Director), Serena Feniger (Writer/Director), and Caden Ching (Music Director)

Serena Feniger and Lindsay Hatch, now a junior and sophomore at McClatchy, wanted to find a way to represent teens onstage, which inspired them to write this musical. They began writing the score more than two years ago and have spent hundreds of hours on this work.

After completing the script, they cast the musical with talented student actors, singers, and dancers from both McClatchy and throughout the region. They are delighted to now bring it to life on the brand new Black Box Theater stage. The students are producing this musical as a fundraiser for the relatively new Visual and Performing Arts Program at McClatchy.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
