Downtown Holiday Ice Rink

Pull out the scarves, throw on some skates, and take a twirl around the ice together!  It’s time to celebrate the holiday season and what better way to feel in the spirit then on the ice under the twinkling lights?

The Westfield Downtown Plaza Ice Rink is Sacramento’s original outdoor ice skating rink and has reopened this year.  The rink is located at 7th and K Streets (across from the Westfield Downtown Plaza’s east end) and is a short stroll from Old Sacramento and the State Capitol.  It is open daily through January 17, 2011 as weather permits.  Go during the day if you like a less crowded rink or at night for more of a holiday atmosphere with the lights and people.

If you’ve got little ones that want to try it out, they have double bladed skates for toddlers to make it easier for them to learn!  Ask for them at the rental tent, there’s no extra charge.  For kids or adults that want a professional to show them how its done, lessons are offered Saturday mornings at 9 am and 9:30 am before the rink opens to the public.  Just call ahead to make a reservation.

Tuesdays are Family Skate Nights and kids skate FREE with a paid adult admission!

Ice Rink Admission is $8 for a 2-hour skating session and $2 for skate rentals.

Parking is validated! The Ice Rink offers parking validations at the Westfield Downtown Plaza.  Garage entrances are located at 5th & J streets and 4th & L streets. Limited street parking is also available in proximity to the rink.  Don’t forget to bring your parking ticket to the rink.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
