FREE Back to School Activities and Tips

As summer vacations wind down, and children return to school, it’s an opportune time for parents to learn about healthy lifestyles for their kids during a special event Saturday, August 25th, from 11am-2pm at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville.

Kaiser Permanente, the leading healthcare provider in the Sacramento region, is inviting parents and children to participate in Learn to Thrive, a free activity focused on healthy living at Center Court near JC Penney.

Highlights of the fun activities at Learn to Thrive:

  • Registered Dieticians will demonstrate how to prepare and pack healthy snacks for school
  • Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Program will perform skits with upbeat music, dance, movement and mime
  • Children will be able to participate in several fun activities including crafts, hula hoops, jump rope and hopscotch.

In addition, physicians and nutritionists will be on hand to provide tips on children’s back-to-school health, including useful information about the importance of being up to date on immunizations, learning how to make the right choices for food and drink, and staying physically active.

“Learn to Thrive is an excellent opportunity for parents to assess their children’s health and discover how to improve their kids’ chances of having a successful school year,” said Louise Glaser, MD, a pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente.

The activities will be most enjoyed by children under 10, and their parents. (Parents must remain with their children). The activities are free and open to nonmembers and members of Kaiser Permanente.

Learn to Thrive is part of Kaiser Permanente’s Walk to Thrive walking club at the mall.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
