Come see all your favorite characters find their golden tickets, meet Willy Wonka, and be surprised by the colorful Oompa Loompas!

It’s a sweet confection of pure imagination!  Young Actors Stage presents youth ages 6-14 in Roald Dahl’s magical story of the world-famous candy man & his quest to find an heir.  This musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features memorable songs from the classic 1971 film including, “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” “I Want it Now” & “The Candy Man.”  The performances will be this Friday, February 24th – Sunday, February 26th.

I am excited to introduce Young Actors Stage to you!  As the arts have unfortunately been disappearing from our schools, Liorah Singerman had a fabulous idea to take her skills into Sacramento elementary schools in the form of workshops.  She created this theater company to bring a love and appreciation of the performing arts to students and the community. The aim of Young Actor’s Stage is not only to create a foundation for dancing, singing, acting and performing, but also to nurture teamwork, concentration, imagination, and confidence that have been proven to carry over into all areas of academic learning.

I have seen what Liorah can do first-hand as my daughter participated in a Young Actors Stage production last year and then came to the Willy Wonka workshop this year with a new-found confidence.  It has been most exciting for me to see her grow both in confidence and a love for theater.  She is absolutely thrilled to be playing the spoiled brat, Veruca Salt, in the MLK Cast performances.  I love that we have the convenience of rehearsing at my daughter’s elementary school with her fellow students but still the excitement of performing on the “big stage” at the 24th Street Theatre!

Seeing other kids singing and dancing their hearts out is a fantastic way to inspire your kids and develop their appreciation for the arts!  I am all about supporting the arts in our community and so I invite you to share with me YOUR child or organization’s show so that I can share it here on Sacramento Sidetracks.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
