Old Sacramento Tree Lighting

That magical time of year is here!  To kick-it off the old fashioned way, Old Sacramento will hold their annual Christmas Tree Lighting tomorrow night, November 24, at 6:00pm.

The festivities will include street performers, a visit from Santa Clause and the Salvation Army Brass Band.  Watch as Mayor Kevin Johnson flips the switch to light this year’s 50-ft tree at 6:30pm in front of the Delta King at Front & K Streets.

After Thanksgiving you will be able to experience the Old Sacramento Theatre of Lights.  At 6:00pm a symphony of lights, sounds and visual effects will take the audience back to a time when the beloved poem The Night Before Christmas was first introduced in Sacramento in 1857. The Old Sacramento Theatre of Lights will run two 20-minute light shows throughout the holiday season Thursdays through Sundays at 6:00pm and 7:30pm.

Enhanced nights: New this year, Old Sacramento’s Theatre of Lights will celebrate with a visit from Santa Claus in The Christmas Shoppe following the performances, living history characters, and themed street vendors with traditional treats like spiced nuts and hot cocoa.

To visit Santa: After the show, go to Christmas & Company, 116 K Street from 6:30-7:30pm & 8:00-9:00pm on the following dates:
November 24, 26 & 27; December 4, 11, 12, 17, 18 & 19

Parking:  Free Holiday on-street parking in Old Sac will start at 4:30pm weekdays and all day on Saturdays and Sundays; November 26 through December 25.

My love for exploring and creating experiences with my three kids led to the founding of SacramentoSidetracks.com in 2009. I realized that Sacramento has so much to offer and I was excited to share my findings with other parents. Besides simply having fun, these are the other positive side effects of taking my kids on outings that I’ve discovered: we have quality time together away from the distractions at home, we cultivate our curiosity, learn new things, conversations are triggered by what we see and do, we connect and bond as a family, and we create new memories. Ready to get sidetracked, too? Let me be your guide!
